St Peter’s Church, Portesham, Dorset

Sophie Hacker

Set within the beautiful 14th-century St Peter’s church in Dorset, this toughened glass screen and disabled-access door serves as both a practical enhancement and a work of art. Designed to celebrate the village’s rich heritage—granted its charter by King Cnut a thousand years ago—the screen is etched and illuminated with imagery inspired by the local landscape, community, and centuries of faith.

Created using sandblasting and transparent enamels, the glass captures scenes and symbols drawn from the village’s history, weaving together stories of place and people through light and texture. The result is a modern intervention that respects the church’s ancient fabric, offering accessibility while reflecting the enduring spirit of the village.

Glass Specification: 12mm toughened glass, 1750mm x 2800mm
