Kiln Formed Glass / Slumped Glass
Kiln-formed glass is a highly versatile and visually striking glass technique created by heating flat glass in a kiln until it softens and conforms to a mould. Also referred to as slumped glass, kiln-formed glass allows for the creation of sculptural, textured and architectural glass surfaces with exceptional depth and character.
During the kiln-forming process, extreme heat transforms the glass sheet, enabling it to take on the exact shape and texture of the mould beneath it. This controlled heating and cooling cycle allows Proto Glass Studios to produce bespoke kiln-formed glass designs ranging from soft, organic textures to bold, geometric patterns.
Whether you require subtle surface movement or highly defined sculptural relief, kiln-formed glass delivers a unique combination of light diffusion, texture and tactile quality that cannot be achieved with standard flat glazing.
