Printed Mirror

Proto Glass Studios can print mirror directly onto glass in virtually any design, creating striking effects of light, depth and reflection. Our bespoke printed mirror technology allows us to produce everything from subtle mirror fade effects to intricate mirror patterns, decorative mirror dots, mirror lines, gradients and custom graphics. These designs can be combined with other specialist glass techniques including ceramic screen printing, acid etching and kiln forming, offering almost limitless creative possibilities.

Unlike traditional mirror manufacturing, which relies on silver nitrate applied to the back of the glass with a protective coating, our printed mirror process offers far greater design freedom. Mirror graphics can be viewed from both sides of the glass, making them ideal for architectural features, partitions, balustrades and artistic installations. As the mirror layer is encapsulated within a laminated glass construction, it is scratch resistant, highly durable and significantly more robust than conventional mirrors.

Our technology also allows printed mirror to be incorporated into toughened safety glass, something that is not possible with standard mirrors. Available in a range of colour tints and finishes, printed mirror can be customised with mirror fade transitions, geometric mirror patterns, halftone mirror dots, linear mirror lines, logos or bespoke artwork. This versatility makes it ideal for commercial interiors, hospitality, retail environments, public art, residential projects and external architectural applications, providing a contemporary interpretation of the traditional mirror.

The pentagonal sculpture shown above demonstrates the creative potential of our printed mirror process. The installation consists of six panels of toughened laminated glass, each featuring a bespoke green and black ceramic print over a printed mirror background. Carefully designed gaps within the mirror pattern allow coloured light to shine through from inside the sculpture after dark, creating a dramatic illuminated effect. The sculpture was manufactured and installed by Proto Glass Studios for the Taith Newydd Low Secure Mental Health Unit and was designed by Anna Heinrich and Leon Palmer.
