St Antony’s Priory Chapel
Durham, UK
St Antony’s Priory is a Christian spirituality centre in Durham, run by the Society of the Sacred Mission.
Sophie specialises in Church Art and is an advisor for Art and Christianity the UK's leading organisation in the field of visual art and religion.
Sophie was commissioned to update the chapel by designing seventeen new glass windows. She used transparent enamels and sandblasting techniques on heritage artista glass, creating soft light and a gentle warmth that enhances the contemplative atmosphere of the space. Schott’s Artista glass also makes the artworks feel more present by diffusing the colours and shapes of the world beyond the chapel. The sand-blasted circles deepen the meaning and theology as well as linking the four designs together.
Techniques used: Screenprinting; Transparent enamels; Opaque enamels; Sandblasting

“The whole effect has been transformative on the space, bringing spills of reflected colour onto the stonework.”
