Martin was tasked with designing the glass for four double-glazed units that sit within the New Lubbesthorpe Brook Local Centre. A Sainsbury’s Local store, GP surgery and 66-bedroom care home have opened at the newly completed mixed-use Brook Centre on Tay Road.
Martin’s artwork celebrates the area's rich local heritage through a series of carefully considered motifs. References to Lubbesthorpe's entry in the Doomsday Book connect the building to the areas earliest recorded history, while the iconic Leicestershire fox reflects the county's identity and wildlife. Elements inspired by harvest, cultivation and the agricultural landscape acknowledge the generations of farming that have shaped the local environment, grounding the building firmly within its setting.
Martin chose a rich colour palette inspired by earth, land and sky, with every shade carefully created by mixing just five opaque enamel colours: black, blue, red, yellow and green. We were able to translate his designs onto large screens, producing multiple-layer prints on single panes that were then made into double-glazed units. The images were matched across each pair of panels, ensuring the design flowed seamlessly.
