Theatr Clwyd

Mold, UK

Manon Awst

After a three-year redevelopment, Theatr Clwyd in Mold began its phased reopening in June 2025.

The renovations included enhancements to the two theatres and cinema, a new terrace and restaurant on the first floor, a café and shop on the ground floor and even an indoor and outdoor play area for children.

Eight acclaimed artists were commissioned to create bespoke public artworks for its major redevelopment. These new pieces, spanning ceramics to sculpture, will become an integral part of the transformed space.

The group brings together established and emerging talents from Wales and beyond, including award-winning Welsh sculptor Manon Awst. Each artist developed site-specific work informed by research into the Mold-based theatre’s archives, its local landscape, and conversations with the community.

Manon’s mirror and coloured glass walls brings vibrant colour, playfulness, and energy to the redeveloped Grade II-listed building.

They look really fantastic and enhance the public spaces in just the way I wanted them to.
